Cardinals Open Regional Play with 5-2 win over Ogemaw Heights

The Orchard View Cardinals advanced to the Regional Finals behind Roger McKenzie's three goals. The first goal came with less than two minutes gone in the opening period as he took an assist by Alex Cantu. His next goal came on a pass from Brady Bowen to send the Cardinals to a 2-0 halftime lead. Freshman Darius Williams got in on the action with Isaiah Villareal getting the assist. Brady Bowen scored an unassisted goal to send the Cardinals to a 4-0 lead. Ogemaw Heights then scored two unanswered goals, making the score 4-2 but then with 4:00 to go, McKenzie took a Maverick Carlisle pass and put it in the net to end the scoring for the night.
The Cardinals will face conference foe, Ludington in the Regional Final, this Saturday right back at Clare at 1:00pm. Ludington defeated Elk Rapids, 3-2 in overtime.

With a conference championship in the rear view mirror, the Cardinals now set their sights on a Regional Championship. First up for the Cards is Ogemaw Heights. The Cardinals will face them in a first round game at Clare High School this Wednesday (Oct. 24) at 8:00pm at Clare High School. The winner will return to Clare on Saturday to face the winner of the Ludington/Elk Rapids match at 1:00pm.

The Orchard View boys soccer team battled the elements on Saturday and pulled out an exciting 5-4 victory over Oakridge in the Division 3 district finals at Orchard View High School.

The Cardinals now advance to the Division 3 regional semifinals on Wednesday against Ogemaw Heights at Clare High School at 8 p.m.
The victory guarantees at least one trophy for the Cardinals, who are now an impressive 16-4-1 on the season.
“We are really getting kids to commit to the system,” said Orchard View Coach Kyle Skodack, whose team finished second behind powerful Western Michigan Christian in the Lakes 8 Conference in the regular season. “Everyone on the team knows their role, even if they just go in for five or 10 minutes. They give 100 percent. That’s kind of nice.”
Both teams got on the scoreboard early.
OV struck first, just over a minute into the contest, with a goal from Devante Glover. Oakridge answered just 23 seconds later when Christoffer Simonsen found the net.
Then the game stopped for 45 minutes due to hail and thunder in the area.
Oakridge took a 2-1 lead when the game resumed on a goal by Mason Wever.
But Orchard View answered with two goals in the next seven minutes. The first game from Brady Bowen, who scored on a penalty kick. The second was scored by Maverick Carlisle.
Orchard View led 3-2 at halftime.
Wever scored in a rebound for Oakridge about five minutes into the second half, tying the game at 3-3.
Orchard View went ahead again about a minute later on a goal by Roger McKenzie. Oakridge tied the game 4-4 with about eight minutes left on a successful penalty kick by Christoffer Simonsen.
McKenzie scored the-game winner for the Cardinals with just under three minutes left, after taking a pass from Glover.
The Cardinals outshot the Eagles 15-11. Orchard View goalie Landon Tyler made seven saves while Oakridge keeper Brandon Jones stopped eight.

After a sluggish first half, the Cardinals turned it on and scored six second half goals to roll past Whitehall 6-2. Roger McKenzie led the Cardinals with 4 goals. They advance to the District Finals to face Oakridge, 2-1 winners over Montague, Saturday at 10am at home.

The Orchard View boys soccer squad opened Division 3 districts with a 3-1 victory over Newaygo on Tuesday night.
The Cardinals led 2-0 at halftime.
Riley Tuttle, Logan Woods and Anthony Storck each scored a goal for Orchard View, while Mavrick Carslie chipped in with an assist.
The Cardinals will host Whitehall on Thursday in the district semifinals. They are now 15-4-1 on the season

The Cardinals defeated the Bulldogs, 8-0 to end the regular season, 14-4-1. They begin District play, Tuesday, Oct. 16 at home at 4:30 versus Newaygo.

The Warriors entered the game ranked No. 1 in Division 4 and managed to beat the Cardinals with three second-half goals coming in the last 30 minutes of the game. Charlie Alfree gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead before Brevin Byrne closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal from 25 yards out. The Warriors are now 14-1-2 on the season and 7-1 in league play while OV dropped its record to 12-3-1 and 4-2-1 in conference action. Maverick Carlisle and Roger McKenzie scored both goals for the birds. Earlier in the season the two teams fought to a 3-3 tie but the Cards were not to be denied on this evening. With the win, the Cardinals set up a home showdown with perennial conference foe, Western Michigan Christian. A win Thursday would put the Cardinals one game up in the conference standings with Muskegon Catholic as the lone remaining team that would have a chance to keep them from the title. Orchard View has won several District titles in school history but the Conference title has proven to be elusive. The Cards improve to 12-2-1 overall with the victory tonight. The Orioles were led by Brayden Porter, Isaiah Lynn and Will Flewelling with a goal each. Flewelling, John Biggs and Evan Shay each added an assist for the Orioles.
